Bahama breeze follows Isabel

Now that we've seen the damaging energy of the tropics, it's time for Towson to enjoy the good life the Caribbean can offer. So on the heels of Isabel's winds, we get a Bahama Breeze opening this week.

Long awaited, Towson's newest restaurant announced its plans two years ago. The need for adequate parking space and refit the existing space on top of a fixed structure caused some of the delay. The spot was chosen by Darden Restaurants for Towson's proximity to Baltimore and the presence of business in the immediate area.

The restaurant will offer "made from scratch" Caribbean cuisine which has been influenced by many cultures. The" Island Near the Mall" will also feature live Island themed music in its Caribbean decor.

Towson colleges encourage students to dine out.

If you see more college students at your favorite Towson eatery this fall, it maybe because of a new meal plan offered by Goucher and Towson University. TU's Tiger Meal Plan is in its second year and gives students a choice of about 20 area merchants who accept their card. Goucher, who instituted on campus swipe cards three years ago, has at least seven merchants signed on to accept the cards off campus.

The schools promote the businesses to students, while the merchants pay a transaction and equipment fee that allow them to process the college cards as credit or debit cards. Some merchants offer the students discounts to encourage use. Merchants who participated last year did not see a great rush of students using the card, but additional school marketing efforts led many to resign in hopes of increasing business this year.
